Case Study: Chemical Company – County Durham
ACC Flooring were contracted to carry out installation of a Anti-static flooring system for one of their existing customers in the Northeast of England. The company a Global Leader in Sustainable Technologies required the existing vinyl to be removed and a Anti-static Resin Flooring System installed to approx. 160m2 plus coving.
In many industrial processes stray static electrical charges can be created and there will be a need for static controlled flooring. Static Dissipative materials allow a slower, controlled discharge often preventing rather than causing sparks. Altroscreed 4mm Static dissipative a decorative solvent free epoxy screed system was chosen by the client.
Once all of the existing vinyl had been removed using Hilti Kangos with a scrapper blade attachment and all waste vinyl had been placed in the skips provided on site by the client, the substrate was then mechanically prepared using handheld diamond grinders to remove any remaining adhesive and ensure the surface was clean prior to the installation of the Anti-static resin flooring system, all preparation equipment used by ACC Flooring is vacuum attached to encapsulate dust.
After the floor had been fully prepared one coat of epoxy solvent free primer was applied prior to installing a self-adhesive copper tape to create a grid and connecting to earthing points that were installed prior to our arrival on site. Once all in place one coat of static dissipative primer was applied and whilst still wet a conductive aggregate was scattered by hand to fully blind the system and then left to cure.
Altroscreed 4mm Static dissipative was installed and once cured two coats of solvent free epoxy seal coat was applied to seal the surface and encapsulate the system and left to cure. The Altroscreed 4mm SD system was then used to create the coving detail to leave a seamless finish and sealed. Expansion joints were reinstated with Altroexpand a flexible jointing compound.
The advantages of Altroscreed 4mm SD is that it is abrasion resistant, can be laid to falls, allows for vertical application, is sustainable, and has a moderate impact strength and chemical resistance.
Making it ideal for use in areas such as;
- Laboratories
- Warehouses
- Clean Rooms
- Dry Storage Areas
- Electronics and Static Controlled Environments.
The project was carried out over 5 working days, working closely with the client to ensure as little disruption as possible to their production schedule, and handed back to the client all within their programmed plan of works.
