Case Study: Factory Flooring – Leeds
ACC Flooring were contacted by a long standing client based in Leeds West Yorkshire to carry out a project that needed to be carried out during one of their planned maintenance shutdowns. Being a factory that operates near to 24/7 they have to utilise the most of the downtime they get, and the project was planned well in advance of the Easter Weekend. Effectively reducing downtime can significantly increase productivity, lower costs and improve overall operational efficiency.
Two Areas totalling approx 280m2 were to complete in the 4 day shutdown period, and a diesel generator was required on site to aid power supply in the areas. Mechanical preparation of the existing substrate was carried out by way of diamond grinding, then anchor grooves were diamond sawcut into the substrate to lock in the screed, all preparation equipment used by ACC Flooring is attached to industrial vacuums to encapsulate dust.
Once the floor areas were fully prepared and primed, a heavy-duty polyurethane screed at a nominal 6mm thickness in Charcoal and Dark Grey was installed, it’s lightly textured matt finish makes it ideal for both wet and dry environments and it has an anticipated lifespan of 10 – 12 years with good housekeeping. Expansion joints were then reinstated using a two-part thixotropic, polyurethane modified epoxy high modulus joint filling compound to match the floor colour.
Safety Demarcation was installed to the clients’ specific requirements and plans, using high build epoxy coatings in White for the Directional Arrows and Safety Red for the Border line of the AGV Area. A walkway at 1m wide was installed using a Blue high build coating. And two Zebra Crossings were installed using a high build epoxy line marking system in Black and White.
Safety Demarcation can significantly improve workplace safety, organisation and efficiency by clearly guiding both Vehicle and Pedestrian traffic flow, highlighting hazards and promoting a safer working environment, reducing accidents and injuries and ultimately unplanned downtime!
