Case Study: Fertiliser Production Plant – Yorkshire

ACC Flooring were contracted by a new client who had acquired new premises in addition and close to their current facilities, for a New Production Plant enabling them to double their current production capacity.

Within the new plant, they had an Engineering Workshop of approximately 140m2 that required a resin flooring system to be installed. The client provided ACC Flooring with a detail plan of what was required to include coloured zoned areas, a walkway and hatched areas.

Having designated areas and safety demarcation within a busy working space, streamlines workflow, optimises traffic flow, highlights hazardous areas, helps prevent accidents and creates a structured and organised environment.

Mechanical preparation of the existing concrete substrate was carried out by way of enclosed diamond grinding, this removes any laitance and provides a clean surface for the epoxy resin floor finish to adhere. All preparation equipment is attached to industrial vacuum units to encapsulate any dust that many be generated during the preparation process.

Once the floor was fully prepared 2 coats of a solvent free high build epoxy coating in Grey was applied to the main of the floor area.

The zoned areas were marked out as per the supplied plan and a solvent free high build epoxy coating in Blue to clients specific RAL colour was installed.

Solvent free high build epoxy coatings are ideal for use in medium duty areas such as Workshops, Factories, Warehouse and storage areas, as they are tough, durable and have a good chemical resistance.

They are suitable for regular foot traffic and light duty forklift truck traffic and slip resistant options are available and can be tailored to specific requirement.

A walkway was then installed, again using the solvent free epoxy coating but this time in Green with a light scatter of a Chelford aggregate to create a slip resistant profile as requested.

Safety Yellow demarcations lines where then added to either side of the walkways to high light.

Hatching in Safety Red was then installed to complete the project.

Then client was pleased with the result and gave positive feedback of our site operatives who had been tasked with the project.
