Case Study: Fish & Chip Restaurant, Yeadon
ACC Flooring was awarded the contract to refurbish Murgatroyds Fish & Chip restaurant in Yeadon near Leeds. The works to the back of house included the Chipping Area, Loading Bay Corridor, Dry Store & Pot Wash Area.
The red quarry tiles to the Chipping Area, Loading Bay Corridor & Dry Store were uplifted using Hilti Kangos. The vinyl flooring & skirting detail to the Pot Was Area was uplifted, removed & disposed.
A specialist contractor was employed to carry out the hydraulic ring saw cutting of the concrete to house the two new channels. To both areas the concrete was cut 5 metre in length x 200mm deep & then cross cut to allow easy removal.
The new channel with stainless steel trap & basket was then installed to the Chipping Area. A polymer modified cementious screed was laid at a nominal 50mm & allowed to cure for 3 days to re-instate the levels left by the removal of the quarry tiles.
The second channel with stainless steel trap & basket was installed to the Pot Wash Area & was tapped into the external drain.
Both channels were set into the concrete substrate by the polymer modified cementitious screed.
A polymer modified cementitious screed offers improved flexural strength which together with high bonding & fast curing capacity allows the production of thin section seamless floor screeds with excellent durability. The product benefits from being a smooth screed to even out the surface of damaged or tamped finish concrete, acts as a screed of varying thickness to install falls for drainage purposes & also as an underlayment for floor coverings & resin finishes. It offers excellent durability & impact resistance, superb adhesion which is maintained even in wet conditions.
Once the resin flooring screed was cured & the drainage system set, the substrate to all areas was primed & a heavy duty polyurethane screed in Midnight Blue @ 6mm applied. This product is the perfect solution for food & drink areas, offering a durable, seamless, hygienic, slip resistant finish with excellent chemical & impact resistance.
A white plastic birds beak profile was fitted to receive the coving @ 100mm high. ACC WR polyurethane render was applied in Midnight Blue to form the coving detail & once cured a coat of Pumadur TF water dispersed polyurethane coating installed to seal the vertical detail.
ACC WR is a seamless polyurethane mortar for the application to vertical surfaces & the forming of cove radius & is ideal for coving, plinths & bases, drain linings & bunds.
The expansion joints were diamond saw cut & infilled with flexible mastic in Midnight Blue to complete the installation.
The project was completed in the agreed timescale enabling the client to open the restaurant in line with revised Covid-19 restrictions.
