Case Study: Manufacturer of Beauty Products

One of our existing clients asked if we could propose a resin flooring solution for their main manufacturing area which was in a poor condition. The primary issues were that although the floor had existing drainage channels, the contours of the floor meant that any water was not falling into the channels and standing water was causing both a risk of slippage but also hygiene was a problem.

Due to the nature of their manufacturing process, closing down the area for a sustained period to allow the work to be carried out was causing the business concerns not only on production requirements but also fulfilling customer orders. After lengthy discussions with the client a works programme was agreed upon using the Easter holiday weekend to minimise loss of production.

The client had to move some machinery and pipework prior to ACC Flooring arriving on site. The failed substrate was upon uplifting found to be two previously installed polyurethane screed systems. Kangos were used to uplift the failed substrates with all the waste being removed from site and recycled. ACC Flooring Ltd was the first resin flooring contractor to commit to recycling up to 100% of the waste generated.

Once the failed substrate was removed, a heavy duty polymer cementitious screed was installed to falls to the existing drainage channels. After three days cure time, a heavy duty polyurethane screed @ 6mm in Charcoal was applied to the 106m² area. This product provides a durable and very monolithic floor finish for applications in industrial, food and beverage, pharmaceutical and chemical industrials.

It also offers excellent resistance to aggressive chemicals has a natural profiled slip resistant finish, is impervious, seamless and consequently hygienic. In addition to its high abrasion and high impact resistance it will provide a life expectancy of 15 – 20 years to heavy duty areas.

A polyurethane render designed for vertical surface and radius coves was formed to the coving detail and finished with a polyurethane grout in Charcoal which is constructed to fill in any pin holes or voids.

The polyurethane render is ideal for coving, plinths and bases, drain linings and bunds offering durability, impact and abrasion resistant and when sealed, chemical resistance.

The project was completed with a minimal amount of production downtime and the client was delighted with the outcome.

“I would like to thank ACC Flooring for another job well done. The work undertaken to our main production area was successfully completed within an agreed narrow window during our Easter shutdown and we are delighted with the result.

We have a fantastic relationship with the team from ACC and have always been impressed with their competency and quality of workmanship. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to potential clients.”
