Case Study: Leonardo Helicopters, Yeovil
A returning client appointed ACC Flooring Ltd to carry out the resin flooring works to the factory floor at Leonardo Helicopters in Yeovil.
Leonardo employs 7,000 people across its six UK sites. They are one of the biggest suppliers of defence and security equipment to the Ministry of Defence with annual revenue of over £2bn of which 50% of their sales is to export markets.
The existing concrete substrate had a lot of impact damage and was covered with latex. The 320m² area was mechanically prepared with both Von Arx and diamond grinding equipment to remove any laitance. After the failed joints were saw cut & the compound removed, ACC Maintain Joint Repair was used to re-instate. This low odour polyurethane concrete has been designed to offer durability to arrises in concrete floor slabs and can withstand wear from forklift truck and wheeled vehicles.
ACC Maintain Floor Repair was applied to large areas of the impacted damaged substrate. Installed at between 5 – 10mm ACC Maintain Floor Repair benefits from good chemical and impact resistance and high abrasion resistance and can be trowelled to a closed finish.
As the working window was very tight, Altro Prime fast track, solvent free, low viscosity primer designed to cure quickly was applied throughout. On curing an Altro Flow epoxy scratchcoat was installed to remove any unevenness and imperfections in the substrate.
Two coats of Altro Tect fast track, solvent free high build epoxy coating were then installed in Winter Grey to provide a fully sealed surface. Altro Tect fast track offers the same advantages as Altro Tect standard and slip resistant variants which include good chemical and abrasion resistance in a high gloss, easy clean finish with the additional benefit of a faster initial cure time. With a 7 year life expectancy the Altro Tect product family offers the perfect solution for general industry, warehouse, vehicle workshops and medium duty areas.
The installation was completed within the four day agreed working window to the delight of all parties.
