Case Study: Magazine Printer

ACC Flooring was asked by a long standing client to submit product proposals for their New Reprographic Department Workspace. The existing canteen, locker area and store rooms were to be made into an open area with an additional extension to the building added to provide the necessary floor space.

The substrate to 220m² was prepared by using enclosed hand held diamond grinders to remove any laitance. A heavy duty polyurethane screed, FeRFA Type 8, was installed in Altro Crete @ 6mm in Steel Grey. This product not only benefits from a 10 year warranty and 15 year life expectancy but also offers excellent impact and excellent resistance to aggressive chemicals and with a profiled slip resistant surface providing low potential for slip. In addition to the advantages of being impervious and a seamless finish, this product was ideal for the clients’ requirements.

The expansion joints were saw cut and infilled with Altro Expand chemical resistant jointing sealant again in Steel Grey. This product is easy to apply and is flexible to accommodate normal movement in addition to low odour and excellent adhesion properties.

To a small office area we proposed Altro Flexiflow 2mm Classic with a slip resistant finish in Gunmetal Grey to complement the main area. This product is a self-smoothing polyurethane flow applied flexible option offering toughness and durability. A liquid damp proof membrane is applied to the prepared concrete or screed substrate to enhance bonding characteristics. The UV stable top coat is easy to clean and can be refreshed during the life of the product. This FeRFA Type 5 offering contains more than 50% renewable natural oil content and with 25 standard colours is ideal for areas were durability and flexibility are paramount. The product again offers a seamless finish and with the advantage of a 6 year guarantee and 40 year life expectancy, providing that the top coat is refreshed during this period, is an ideal and cost effective alternative to vinyl flooring. The slip resistant matt top coat provides more than adequate protection against slips and trips.

The client was delighted with the work and since the installation asked us to install resin flooring solutions with other areas of their business.
