Case Study: Manufacturer of High Quality Sealing Products
ACC were contracted by a client who had a large project within their Warehouse. After several years of in house painting the Aisleways and Walkways were in need a full overhaul.
ACC Floorings Sales Manager and Contracts Manager attended site to survey the floor areas, on inspection most of the floor area had several layers of paint build up which included both Epoxy and polyurethane resin systems, and would need fully removing and taking back to the concrete substrate.
After discussions with the client and associates at Multi Hire Power Tools in Warrington, it was agreed that a Ride on Battery Powered Floor Scrapper, a 3 Phase Four Headed Diamond Grinder and a Bef 320 Floor Planner/Scrapper would be required to remove the many layers of existing coatings, a programme of works was agreed upon as the Warehouse would be in operation for the duration of the works and therefore required careful planning to minimise downtime and for the client to make alternative routes available to staff and visitors.
The works were carried out over 3 separate Friday to Sunday Weekend visits, and the floor area segregated into 3 Zones to reduce the disruption as much as possible. In total the Project was to prepare and install approx. 1280m2 of Aisleways, 70m2 of Walkway and install Safety Demarcation.
As with all resin flooring projects, preparation is Key!
The floor should be dry, structurally sound, be free of contaminants, friable material and laitance, and have a surface finish the epoxy resin can bond to. If prepared and installed all as per manufacturers guidelines, High Build Epoxy Coatings have an anticipated lifespan of:
- 5 – 7 years light duty use
- 2 – 4 years medium use
All dependent on thickness, quality of substrate and service conditions.
Once the floor areas were fully prepared and all old paint coatings and dust had been removed, two coat of Altrotect Slip Resistant variant, a solvent free high build epoxy coating was applied.
High build coatings are ideal for use in light to medium duty areas, in such environments as Warehouses, Packing and Storage Areas, Vehicle Workshops and Factories as they provide a good chemical and abrasion resistance, are available in both standard and slip resistant variants that can be tailored to suit. and in a wide range of colours.
A Green Walkway was then installed again using Altrotect slip resistant variant. The edges of the Aisleways were highlighted using Altoline solvent free epoxy line marking system in White. And to finish the project off a Black and White Zebra Crossing was installed.
Walkways and safety demarcation help to prevent accidents, optimise traffic flow, and create a structured and organised environment.
The project was completed within the allotted programme and handed back to the client who was very happy with the result.
