Case Study: Pharmaceutical Company – Cheshire

ACC Flooring were contacted by a Main Contractor who had a project running for an existing established pharmaceutical company in the North West that required resin flooring in a plant room. They required a seamless, hygienic finish suitable for a pharmaceutical environment.

A high build epoxy coating was chosen by the client for the flooring and also a highlighted walkway which was to run through the Plant Room. High build epoxy coatings are often used in light to medium duty industrial environments, as they offer excellent chemical and abrasion resistance, help eliminate dust generation from the existing concrete substrate and have slip resistant options available which can be tailored to suit the requirement of the individual client.

The challenges with this project for ACC Flooring would be access to the floor due to the plant and machinery already been in place and tight programme schedule that required efficient planning and execution.

In total there was approx. 200m2, and the works were to be completed in 2 days.

The floor was prepared using handheld diamond grinders attached to vacuum controlled units to encapsulate as much dust as possible that is generated during the preparation process.

Once fully prepared 2 coats of a solvent free high build epoxy coating in light grey was applied to the floor to include under machines and plant and around existing drainage and left to cure.

A Walkway in Blue was then installed as per the clients plan and drawing, a slip resistant aggregate was introduced between the 2 coats and finished with a safety yellow border to highlight the walkway.

Having designated safety walkways can streamline site traffic flow, and separate pedestrians from workplace hazards, resulting in more efficient and secure working environment.

The project was delivered safely, on schedule and with minimal disruption.
