Case Study: Pharmaceutical Manufacturer – West Yorkshire

Having completed several projects for a valued customer over the previous years, they contacted us once again to carry out a refurb and refresh project within various areas throughout their Pharmaceutical Plant in West Yorkshire.

There was approximately 1086m2 of Flooring and 320lm of coving, over 3 floors and 11 different areas to install in epoxy resin and also 2 Booths that required ESD Static Dissipative polyurethane resin system installing.

A site meeting was arranged prior to the project starting to agree on a programme of works as the plant would be in operation for the duration of the works and therefore required careful planning to minimise downtime and for the client to make alternative routes available to staff and visitors.

For the 1086m2 of Epoxy Resin, mechanical preparation of the existing concrete and coated substrates was carried out using enclosed diamond grinding machine along with handheld diamond grinders all of which were attached to industrial vacuum units to encapsulate any dust that is generated during preparation.

Once fully prepared and a clean surface left to enable the resin system to adhere to, two coats of a solvent free high build epoxy coating was applied in Mid Grey, Chelsea Blue and Red all as per the clients’ supplied drawings and plans.

High build coatings are ideal for use in such environments as Warehouses, Packing and Storage Areas as they provide a tough hard-wearing coating for medium duty traffic areas giving a high film build and wear resistance. High build coatings also can protect concrete from oil, chemical spillages, and have slip resistant options available.

Coving was then refreshed where required using a solvent free grout seal coat in the matching colour to the floor.

For the 2 ESD Dissipative Booths, mechanical preparation was carried out to remove any laitance and to leave a clean surface for the heavy-duty polyurethane resin system to adhere.

One coat of Pumaprime SF a solvent free epoxy primer was applied, and a copper tape grid system was connected to earthing points installed by others, prior to the start of the project. Once the primer had cured one coat of Pumaprime ESD a solvent fee conductive primer was installed and left to cure.

Once cured Pumadur HF ESD, a heavy duty static dissipative polyurethane floor screed at a nominal 6mm in Mid Grey was applied, it has a seamless matt surface finish with a light slip resistant texture and benefits from high durability, impact, abrasion and is resistant to a wide range of chemicals. Its static dissipative properties make the product ideal for both wet and dry processing environments wherever the control of unwanted static electricity is required.

Static Dissipative flooring is designed to prevent the build up and discharge of static electricity.

The project was completed in 5 working days and handed back to the client.
