Case Study: Precision Machine Tool Industry
Founded in 1953, the company is one of Europe’s largest specialist manufacturers and suppliers of gear racks, pinions, trapezoidal power screws, jack screws; Acme feed screws and nuts together with a full CNC manufacturing facility.
Following the successful installation of Altro Crete 6mm slip resistant heavy duty polyurethane screed at 6mm to 1,750m² to their factory floor during their Easter shutdown last year, ACC Flooring were invited to provide a solution for their reception area and corridor leading to the factory.
Whilst on first appraisal the reception area appeared to be a concrete substrate, on further in-depth investigation it was found to contain not only asphalt but vinyl tiles. All of which had to be uplifted, removed and disposed of prior to the commencement of any preparation.
Once the concrete was exposed the substrate was prepared with vacuum diamond grinding. A self-levelling compound, usually consisting of powder and latex mixed together then poured onto the floor, trowelled to a flat finish was applied to bring the floor back to levels. The advantage of a latex screed is that it can be laid to 3 – 40mm.
ACC Flooring then installed Altro Mosaic at 1 – 1.5mm in Thunder colourway. The product is an epoxy resin which encapsulates decorative acrylic flakes. The system is made of up of a coat of Altro Tect standard variant coloured gloss. The flakes are then fully blinded and after curing the excess is swept off then 2 top coats of Altro Tect standard variant, clear gloss applied.
With an 8 year life expectancy, Altro Mosaic is perfect for medium duty areas including communal areas, walkways, corridors, reception and atria.
