Case Study: Specialist Chemical Manufacturer – Leeds
A client in Leeds had a project to refurbish one of their laboratories, that had an old and dated tiled floor.
A Decorative Flooring System in Black and White was chosen by the client, the advantages of these flooring systems are;
- Low odour
- Good chemical resistance
- Good abrasion resistance
- Ease of cleaning
- Good range of colour options
Decorative Flake Systems at a nominal 1.5mm thickness are a solvent free resin combination system which encapsulates decorative flake into the epoxy and are often called a sandwich systems.
Once others had removed the tiles ACC Flooring carried out mechanical preparation of the existing concrete substrate by way of enclosed diamond grinding, this removes any laitance and provides a clean surface for the epoxy resin floor finish to adhere. All preparation equipment is attached to industrial vacuum units to encapsulate any dust that many be generated during the preparation process.
Making good in Doorway areas was required to adjust level differences and ensure a smooth transition, this was done using a trowel applied low odour polyurethane concrete repair mortar.
Once the room was fully prepared and ready to receive the decorative floor finish, 1 coat of a solvent free high build epoxy coating in Grey was applied and fully blinded by hand with the acrylic flakes in Black and White and then left to cure overnight.
Once cured any excess flakes were then swept off and the two coats of solvent free epoxy clear seal to seal the surface and encapsulate the flakes was applied and then left to cure.
Decorative Flake Systems are often used in medium duty areas, such as communal areas, walkways, corridors and reception areas.
They are available on both Gloss and Matt finishes and when looked after can have a life expectancy of up to 8 years.
