Case Study: Engineering Company

ACC Flooring was asked by a long standing client to present a epoxy resin flooring solution to an internal staircase which was in need of refurbishment. The client had recently refurbished their reception area and wanted an aesthetically pleasing product to create a lasting impression to their clients but one which was also functional for the workforce. The works needed to be completed during a shutdown period which meant that this small window would put considerable pressure on our experienced team of applicators.

The main staircase had vinyl applied over various subfloor materials namely screed, asphalt and tiles. These materials had to be uplifted and removed by Kango to reinstate levels. The newly exposed substrate was mechanically prepared by vacuum diamond grinders. All the cracks to the concrete were sealed with scrim cloth. A heavy duty polymer modified screed was installed and allowed to cure; this product is ideal for internal applications and benefits from excellent tensile strength.

After discussions with the client, a trowel applied Altro Screed Quartz decorative epoxy system was installed at 4mm to the landings, treads and risers with additional coving detail. The stringers to the staircase were also cleaned and rendered using the same Altro system.

Altro Screed Quartz is a FeRFA type 6 installation and is a three part solvent free epoxy system comprising of a clear resin and coloured graded aggregates. The product also provides a moderate level of chemical and impact resistance in addition to its durability and easy to clean characteristics. In addition to the resin flooring works, ACC Flooring sourced, supplied and fixed complementary stair nosing to all the treads to the staircase.

Standards had to be maintained throughout to achieve a final outcome which was an exceptional quality finish which enhanced and embellished the reception area. The works was completed on time causing the client no additional downtime.

The staircase was transformed from its original appearance and the client was thrilled with the result.
